Lake Ontario
One of the Great Lakes chain, Lake Ontario offers a larger volume than Lake Erie, while offering a similar length and breadth. Major centers along this lake include Rochester in New York and Hamilton and Toronto in Ontario, Canada.
Erie Canal
The Erie Canal was officially opened in 1825 and stretches 363 miles. The creation of the canal spurred the first great westward movement of American settlers, gave access to the land and resources west of the Appalachians and made New York a major commercial city. The canal runs from Lake Erie to Albany, New York.
